Sol Leonina Pais (February 1st, 2001 - April 15th, 2019) was an American student who received nation-wide attention and a manhunt due to her being deemed a "credible threat" by authorities and the media. This is everything i have gathered about Sol's case.
Sol's family has been pretty private about their personal family life.
Gardi Pais, Sol's father, is an accomplished rock musician. He has a band named Los Violodares. In 1993, he even opened for Guns n' Roses with his previous band Los Perros.
However, little is known about Sol's mother, Silvia. It is theorized that Sol was closer with her father than with her mother, as she seemed to have severe mood swings and even Bipolar disorder.
She had one sibling, which also had a neocities website.
The Pais family moved from Buenos Aires, Argentina to FL, Miami before Sol was born. They seemed to be heartbroken about the whole ordeal, calling it a horrible nightmare. In an interview with the media they said that Pais might have had a mental illness. Before Sol's death, they lived in Surfside, Miami, about two blocks from the beach.
The young woman was described as quiet and highly-achieving academically by her classmates. Pais had even painted a tree mural for her school, Miami Beach Senior High School, in which she was a senior.
Sol was in an AP Art class and an honour roll English student. She was very close with her AP art teacher Mr. Virgin, even posting about him on her private Instagram account.
She didn't strike anyone as troubled, people only really said she blended in well within the school and didn't have much friends. There isn't any information about her being bullied or made fun of, however her old classmate said she had been called a "future school shooter" for the way she dressed.
Pais preffered to express herself online on her personal blog, dissolvedgirl.neocities.org. Her username was taken from the Massive Attack song by the same name. The girl's website was very inspired by the 90's aesthetic, even writing "1999 - the nobodies" at the end of her homepage, as a reference to the Columbine massacre and the Marilyn Manson song of the same name. Sol often wrote about her feelings of isolation, depression and suicidal ideation online. Her journal featured writings and drawings about her not belonging in this universe and wanting to live in the 90's. The more you delve into Sol's personal writings, the more you find out about her feeling a sense of longing and yearning for someone. The name of this person is almost always covered, but using context clues and other information about Sol's case we can tell that the person she was in love with was one of the Columbine shooters, Eric Harris. It isn't clear why she took a specific interest to Eric rather than Dylan. Eric often wrote about not belonging and not being the same as everybody, maybe Sol had found that inspiring and even relatable to her.
Pais also expressed her interest in metaphysics, the occult, alternative rock and metal music such as Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, The Smashing Pumpkins, Hole and others.
In late March, Sol wrote on the National Gun Forum, asking about the logistics of her buying a shotgun as a FL 18-year-old resident in Colorado. She also bought three one-way tickets to Denver, CO. One for April 15th, 2019 and the other two for the two following days.
Sol was last seen by her mother on April 14th, 10 pm. The next morning she left in an uber to Miami International Airport. She wore an Alice in Chains shirt, a flannel, military pants, boots and fingerless gloves. Sol texted her mother about an afterschool art history review. After arriving in Denver, Sol immediately went to buy a Mossberg 500 Shotgun, 3 boxes of ammo, and 55 shotgun shellsfrom from a private dealer by uber. After that, she called for an uber again to drive her to Mt. Evans. Sol told the uber that she "could cry" because of how beautiful she found the snow to be. The reason why Sol chose to commit suicide in Mt. Evans is because it is rumoured that Mt. Evans is the place where Eric's ashes were scattered.
After arriving to Mt. Evans, Sol commited suicide with the gun she bought earlier in the same way Eric Harris did. A few hours later it started to snow, it's believed that if Sol hadn't been found, she would have been under the snow until summer.
The actual manhunt for Sol Pais started AFTER her death. The FBI was alerted about Sol at around 11 am, April 16th. About 150 schools closed due to her being seen as "a credible threat". Pais was found on Wednesday morning, April 17th. She had everything she brought with her within arms reach. Authorities said she died in an isolated place off the beaten path.
The authorities later confirmed that Sol Pais never made any direct threats towards any school. It was all a myth created by the media.
May Sol rest in peace. The media wildly misinterpreted her as a threat, rather than as a girl who needed help and never got it.
The websites/sources I found all of the information about this case on.
if i got anything wrong, please inform me. I want to present the case as accurately as i can.
