Viktors Konopeļkins was the Latvian man responsible for the shootout which occured in Lithuania, Alytus on July 10th, 2025.
Next to nothing is known about the shooter's personal life, as the Lithuanian and Latvian media focused more so on the crime rather than the criminal.
The only thing really known about Viktors is that he was born in 1964 and is of Latvian descent. It is most likely that he was affiliated with gangs. It's also known that he was named "Kuvalda" in the criminal world, which translates to "Sledgehammer" in english. He was known to also commit a crime, which he was arrested for, before the shootout in 1996 (it was published by the latvian newspaper "Lauku Avize"), in which him and two other men stole 200 thousand US dollars.
It isn't known who exactly was murdered by the shooter, as the media hasn't disclosed any information around their identities. But it is known that Konopeļkins murdered a mother and her adult son on July 8th, just two days before the shooting. Autopsy results reveal a violent death. The actuality of the murders is not 100% clear as Viktors was only accused of the murders. But it is most likely him. The motive behind the killings, as speculated by latvian officials, was most likely due to personal problems. After the killings the suspect fled to Poland from July 8th to July 10th. The actual timeline hasn't been made public.
Viktors crossed the Polish-Lithuanian border at around 10:00 am. Later, his Porsche with a Latvian license plate was spotted in Alytus. The actual shootout occurred on July 10th 2025, at around 10:25-10:30 am. It started with a chase and after the police surrounded Viktors, he jumped out of his car and opened fire. Minutes later, an explosion happened. Both the police car and the Porsche exploded, but, luckily, no policemen were hurt or murdered.
After the explosion, the police hadn't located Konopeļkins or his body, which prompted a manhunt around Alytus. Many were informed that an armed and dangerous man was on the loose. However, at around 13:00, while the authorities were investigating the crime scene, his body was found in a field. It isn't known how exactly the shooter died, but using context clues we can gather that he most likely died in the explosion and got carried away.
